I began working at Appian Corporation in August 2000. Appian grew rapidly in both revenue and personnel, expanding from a handful of employees when I first started to over 200 in September 2007. March 2007, Whitepaper - On Demand Business Process Management - George Barlow and I wrote this whitepaper on, Appian Anywhere, Appian's business process management software as a service (SaaS). George Barlow is GM of Appian Anywhere and a very good friend of mine.
January 2007, KM World - Speak Softly and Carry a Big BPM Suite - This article discusses the importance of business process management technology in helping drive process efficiencies across all major verticals. It discusses the combination of SOA and BPM as a framework for composite applications and how human workflow is incorporated into an overall vision of process improvement.

August 2005, Whitepaper - The Longtail of Process Automation (full article) - This whitepaper describes the theory of the Longtail and its application to BPM. Speaking Opportunities

3/6/2007 - ebizQ BPM In Action Virtual Conference. I participated on a panel entitled "BPM and Enterprise 2.0" discussing how Web 2.0 technologies and concepts have advanced in the consumer world and how they arebeginning to impact enterprise software as users change their expectations of how software should behave. Other panelists included Phil Gilbert, CTO of Lombardi Software, and Ismael Ghalimi, CEO of Intalio. The panel was moderated by Sandy Kemsley, BPM Blogger and Architect.
2/9/2007 - ebizQ BPM Podcast. I was offered the opportunity to provide a podcast on Appian's BPM software in conjunction with ebizQ. Entitled "Appian Enterprise 5.5: BPM Via Your iPod?", the podcast discussed how business process management is beginning to expand in both scope and responsibility.
10/17/2006 - Object Management Group (OMG) BPM/SOA Workshop - Burlingame, CA. I participated on a panel entitled "Integrators� and Tool Implementers�" OMG gathered experienced integrators and tool designers/builders to discuss the rewards and problems that arise as you move from BPM, through MDA/UML, to development, deployment, and software evolution and maintenance of large, multi-enterprise WS/SOA systems. The presentation was entitled "Using BPM to Help Secure your SOA. Other panelists included: Jim Amsden, Senior Software Engineer, IBM, Jeanne Baker, Lead Program Manager, BizTalk, Microsoft, Iyad Jabri, President and CEO, Intelliun Corporation, and Meir Levi, CEO, Interfacing Technologies

I was asked to speak at this conference about how organizations implementing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) are leveraging process management technology to help secure and manage their exposed services and business components. The presentation was entitled "Using BPM to Help Secure your SOA."

Bruce provided an overview of BPM technology and a methodology organizations should use in evaluating the tools. I discussed in more detail some of the specific features organizations should look for in making their BPM purchasing decisions.
2/01/2007 - BPM & SOA: Better Together - This was a webinar I hosted with BPM Expert John Lojek of BPMBasics.com on BPM & SOA. We discuss the merits of combining BPM with your existing SOA initiatives in order to gain governance, visibility and agility.
9/12/2006 - Creating Value Using BPM - This was a webinar I hosted with internationally acclaimed writer Andrew Spanyi discussing how organizations can get more for less by implementing BPM Suites.
8/29/2006 - Enterprise Agility: BPM, SOA and their Effect on BPO - This was a webinar I hosted with BPM expert and independent analyst Derek Miers discussing how new technologies are enabling companies to be more agile.
6/21/2006 - Bringing Visio Process Maps to Life - This was a joint webinar with Dutch Dwight, COO of Zynium. Zynium is an Appian technology partner that provides technology for incorporating Visio process diagrams into the Appian BPM engine.
6/7/2006 - BPM 301: Quantitative BPM - This was a webinar on using analytics to bring a quantitative approach towards BPM initiatives. Joe Raynus, CEO of ShareDynamics co-presented.
4/13/2006 - Collaborative BPM: Connecting People to People - After the success of the initial webinar, I hosted another one with Bruce Silver. We discussed how collaboration and process technologies were merging to streamline human to human interactions.
